Great food, good service. Didn't understand the need of the butcher paper and crayons on the table, wasn't aware that it was a kid place. The location is on the small size, I guess they mainly do carry outs. For the décor, the walls are packed with photos of random assortment of what I guess are family or events in Rochester but adds the "we are part of the community feel".

Really really good. Everyone is right about Charley's Chowder - best Manhattan Clam Chowder I've ever had. I also had the Chicken George sandwhich - the BEST chicken sandwich I've ever had - no lie. Moist, juicy, sweet, salty. What more could a gal want in a chicken sammie? OH WAIT - LOTS OF MOZZARELLA! My waiter was professional and friendly - THANKS CHADD! I had been wanting swordfish, which they don't carry here - so I opted for a shrimp cocktail which they whipped up for me (it's not on the menu). It was good - the cocktail sauce was marvelous, but the shrimp weren't cold enough, but I can't fault them for this since they made it on the spot for me. LOVE this place and can't wait to go back again and again and again...

Yes, Mr. President, uh huh...Yes, Kruse & Muer's at 11:00am, yes sir...What? Bring my appetite, yes sir! Do they have salad and bread? Yes, GREAT!!! See you then sir! Of course this is not Obama. But it is a free lunch! End of the year wrap up with the big guy. This was my first time here. I was very pleasantly surprised with the wait staff. Fast and friendly, just as I like it. Oh, and the bread. Keep the loaves coming! Bring the butter too! Can I take a couple of these home???? Now for the meal... Jimmy's Pile of Perch Sauteed & served on a bed of mashed potatoes with lemon caper Beurre blanc & marinated tomato relish-Put the lemon capers and the tomato relish stuff on the side please.... I don't know who Jimmy is but this is Tommy's and no one can have any! This was really good. Lightly breaded and sauteed....melt in your mouth...and the potatoes...good, with a hint of garlic and heavy butter and oh so smooth. Add to this a glass of wine...and do I really have to go back to work? Another loaf of bread for the drive home...really... I need a place at work to crawl into for a nap.... Another great year, I still have my job, and a year end bonus....Looking forward to 2010!!!!

Eh. It was okay. It was good, but not quite good enough to grant it 4 stars. The food was pretty good. I had a pasta dish with spinach, tomatoes, and mushrooms. I actually really liked the dish because it didn't feel too heavy. Their bread was pretty good but I wish they sliced it for you instead of leaving it in the bag. I don't get the whole bag thing. Why would anyone rather have bread in a bag where you have to cut it yourself? It's not like it tastes any better than if they sliced it for us. Especially in the middle of flu season, I didn't like the idea of everyone at the table putting their germy hands all over the shared loaf of bread (and I was the sick one at the table so I'm sure other people were thinking that even more when I grabbed the bread to take a piece off!). Not a fan of the decor. I guess it's supposed to feel homey but to me, it just comes across as amateur. It's not a expensive restaurant but it's not exactly cheap either -- I would expect better decor.

We were extremely dissatisfied with the food and the very poor service. The salad I ordered which was my main course had rotten lettuce on the bottom of the salad (iceberg) with an array of wilted/old mixed greens over the top. When I called the waiter over to show her (I pulled out the rotten lettuce and had it on my bread plate...she said she could bring me more lettuce for the salad (??). No offer for a new salad with fresh greens was made! I asked her to please just remove the salad from our bill. My husband saw her take the plate back to the Manager to show him. The Manager never bothered to come to our table to discuss the problem. However he did come to the table next to ours to ask how their meal was! Bad food and Bad Service with no concern for customer satisfaction. Come on Kruse and Meur, please educate your Staff at the Village.....it's how you respond to a problem that makes a great person, restaurant, business! Thumbs down to this Manager and his kitchen/service crew.

It was interesting experience visiting Kruse & Muer. The atmosphere is bustling to say the least, with lots of families in attendance. We were promptly seated, and the menu presented us with a great variety of seafood. We started off with some delicious stuffed mushrooms, filled substantially, with crab and shrimp. More please! May I say that the bread is a wonderful vehicle for scooping up the delicious sherry flavored sauce. For entree's there were the Crabcakes (why only two? jk), and the Seafood Panroast. Fresh and very satisfying. Portions are hearty, without being completely ridiculous. Unfortunately, service was subpar. Long waits for beverages, no bread until we were almost done with our appetizers. Boo! Delicious food, reasonable prices. So why only three stars? Cramped tables (I practically had to sit in the aisle), poor service and lots of flies.

This is one of the better restaurant groups in the area. I really like this place, but I review one experience at a time. Bread was good as always... But the annoyance of the poppy seeds covering everything outweigh the flavor they bring. I ordered the Scrod. It was sadly overcooked. You could tell just by looking at it that it was going to be dry. Definitely not the head chef in the kitchen today. Also, it was supposed to come with a Dijon sauce, but all I got was straight tartar sauce. The rice was tasty. The veggies that accompanied it were bland, under seasoned. And the parsnips were really tough. The Charlys Chowder was tasty. I know this place can do better. They will get another chance to redeem themselves.

Yet another place that breaks down my preconceived notions about Detroit and the metro area. Love it, love it, and the sort of establishment that makes you feel like you're right back at home...no matter where that home may be.

This is our default local place to take friends visiting from out of town. The menu is diverse enough that anyone can find something they like, plus a decent wine and beer menu. I wouldn't say the food is outstanding, but it's usually neutral enough for anyone. We were easily able to make reservations on a Friday night a couple hours in advance, and were seated within 10 minutes of arriving. Everyone loves the hot, poppy seeded loaves of bread that arrive at the table. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place if you want something local and are entertaining friends.

Since I had to join Yelp for a class, I had to give a shout out to Kruse & Muer. This was my favorite restaurant when I lived in Rochester Hills and I miss it! Loved the bread (of course) and the chicken tortellini. Wish they would open one in DC!

Mmmm....the bread! The bread came warm in a paper bag, & you just ripped off pieces to eat. Food in general was pretty good. I also liked the salad quite a bit. The dining area is pretty small though and crowded. While you wait, sometimes, they'll have pizza samples available, as the take out counter's right there. So , yeah, there's also takeout too, but I never took advantage of that. I kinda discovered this place late during my stay in the metro Detroit area. It's located in a cute outdoor mall on the side facing Adams(newly redone as of the last couple years), although the weather's pretty crappy a good portion of the year to really enjoy it.

Returning to Kruse & Muer in the Village is like coming home. And I mean that. I grew up one street away and we frequented this place from the moment it opened. The fresh poppy seed bread, amazing pizzas and seafood-heavy menu is among the best around and I still love taking friends and family here. My mother and I stopped in for lunch today and I ordered something as comforting as could be - Charley's Chowder and the signature salad, which is chock-full of melon, complemented by red onion and topped with that fresh honey mustard vinaigrette. It's quite possibly my favorite lunch option around and I wish the other Kruse & Muer locations offered this particular salad. My mom went with a fresh perch, served with a generous helping of green beans and that amazing rice pilaf. She opted for a Champagne Cream sauce, which was both light and creamy - just delicious. We were pretty delighted with the whole meal and didn't managed to save any room for the dessert (though we had been contemplating the blueberry cobbler). It's nice to know the quality is consistent after all these years. I still love Kruse & Muer, for lunch or dinner. And just like old times we can still go through more than a loaf of that yummy warm bread, just the two of us! Now I'll just be going.. I think I ought to go for a run or something.

Great food, service and cozy environment. Enjoyed the bread and slaw and the main dish of talapia. This K&R is sooooo much better than the Rochester downtown location!!! After dinner you can also enjoy a stroll in the Village. If there's room in the tank you can stop by Maggie Moos or Starbucks. Enjoy...

Good and bad on this one. Good, great pizza and bread, I mean it's fantastic. The servers are for the most part above average and in some cases outstanding. They also have a great seasonal menu. Bad. It's pricy, the pizza however is not so I recommend checking that out first. This place would have a great small restaurant feel to it if less people knew about it. Forget going on a weekend after 5:30. It's nuts, and it seems to wear on the hosting staff. They often appear over run and not prepared. I usually have a less than great start the the evening however the serving staff tends to make it up later. Overall great place, and If your in the mood for pizza you have got to try this place! Just go with take out on a weekend...

Pros: the bread, OH the BREAD! Deep, delicious and dynamic wine list, the seafood, the ever-changing specials list, the pizza, the service, and the take-out manager and department. (Mild)Cons: All of the K&M locations are always packed, so you often have to wait for a table, most dishes are over-sauced, including salads. The sauces are delicious, but I also like to taste the food underneath them, and the desserts are mediocre. Overall, I go to K&M about once a month because I like it and I like the experience. If you're watching your waistline, don't expect to get a healthy meal!

so um. didn't know that baja fresh was closed so my fam and i went next door to kruse and muer on a Friday night and managed to be seated in a reasonable time. while waiting there is a tub of bottled beers and I proceeded to peruse the variety. I wanted a blue moon. but they didn't have any. however. the waiter suggested the red hook wit. boy , it's prob my new fav beer. they also had cheese pizza for those who were super starving ( uh, like my kids. thank gd). as for my main course. they were able to create a dish for me that i wanted to eat minus the dairy. cant get better than this...or can it?

We had tickets to a comedy show at Meadowbrook Festival and wanted to grab a bite to eat before the show. We had originally planned on eating at Bravo! but when we were told the wait was at least 45 minutes, we moved on to Kruse & Muer in the Village. By some sort of miracle, we were immediately sat at a cozy (read: tiny) table in the equally tiny restaurant. It was lively and bustling and we were starving so everything on the menu looked delicious. Our waiter was prompt and friendly and kept promising that our bread was just about to come out of the oven. We waited patiently but had we known how addicting the bread would be, we would have stomped our feet and pouted just a little! SO GOOD! While we waited in blissful ignorance, our waiter suggested the chef's specials: gulf shrimp pasta and cedar plank salmon. Hubby chose the salmon and I chose the pasta. I also ordered the corn chowder as an appetizer. For drinks, our waiter suggested the drink of the day, sangria. I ordered that while hubs stuck with Diet Coke. Little did I know that it would be the best sangria I've ever had! Garnished with a slice of peach, it was delicate and refreshing and I could have easily had four glasses of it, but since I wanted to be conscious for the show to follow, I only had two. (As a side note, the waiter had a difficult time finding another wine glass for my second order and after a few minutes, he came to the table, apologized profusely and requested that he use my first glass to serve the second. A little odd, and I don't usually like losing sight of my straw and beverage, but the promise of another glass of their sangria made me oblige.) I was a smidge disappointed that the chowder was not the traditional New England Clam Chowder that I adore but, after reading the other Yelp reviews, I see that I deprived myself of an experience by not having Charley's Chowder. Next time. The corn chowder was a bit thin, and I'm not sure if that's just how it is since I've never had corn chowder anywhere before. But it was absolutely delicious. Our main meals weren't as special as the sangria, bread and chowder, but still quite good and very fresh. I don't even like fish and I didn't mind the bite of salmon my husband offered me. His mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables could have been a meal for me on their own - they were splendid! My gulf shrimp pasta was fresh and very good, however, the shrimp themselves, while plentiful, were a bit on the small side for my liking. And, yes, we did request an extra loaf of their fabulous bread to eat with our meal. We will definitely be returning to this little treasure and hopefully we will be just as lucky with timing because, as we left the restaurant, we found quite a few people spilling out into the sidewalk waiting for a table.

Came here last Sunday for my dad's birthday dinner, after cancelling at Michael Symon's Roast downtown (he wanted to stay closer to home). I tried making reservations at the downtown Rochester Hills location but they didn't have availability, but this location was able to accomodate us on short notice. I've tried most of the restaurants in this village plaza, including Mitchell's and Bravo, and Kruse & Muer is my favorite. The negatives first: very small space especially for Michigan so it feels cramped. No draft beer and I don't think they have a bar. The positives: - Very quick service - The bread is insanely good. They give you these fresh baked loaves in bags that are demi-baguette shaped but are soft, hot and chewy. Kind of salty, but so tasty. You can just keep asking for more, I think. The danger is you are stuffed even before your appetizer comes out. My favorite dishes that we ordered this trip: - baby back ribs. perfectly cooked and not overly slathered with sauce, although more sauce is on the side. little tub of crazy good baked mac & cheese with bread crumbs. My mouth is watering thinking of the mac & cheese - salmon on a cedar plank. perfectly cooked, nicely seasoned. came with nice vegetable sides. - fish chowder - it's in a red soup base, not vegetable base.

Ah, back home to Rochester Hills...and one of my first stops is always Kruse & Muer (either Main Street, or the Village). Mom loves the place too so she always wants to take me there, and I'm happy to oblige. All the seafood dishes I've had have been very well done. The crab stuffed mushroom appetizer is excellent. Today I went with one of the specials - the Nantucket Chicken, which was served with Maine Lobster, and Maryland crab meat on top, covered by a delicious sauce. Very good. WARNING: customers consuming the freshly baked bread served before dinner will become instantly addicted and you WILL fill yourself up before you even get any food! I had them bring a second loaf (yes, second) just so I could eat a bite and take it home in the doggy bag. (Well, about 1/2 of it made it home...) Service has always been good. Decor is not anything special, so it's not an intimate date type of place, but remember above - I was with MOM. I'm granting 5 stars, but I find it's all relative...for Rochester area this is probably a 5-star place. If it were transported to me in my NYC neighborhood it'd still be a solid performer, probably a 4. (And that's actually saying a lot.) Of course, if it were transported to me in NYC the prices would be at least double. Nuff said - I found it well priced.

The entree was a bit uninspiring, but the water was served from a wine bottle, nice touch. Service was quite good and we were seated right away. The bread was indeed amazing. The steamed veggies were brocolli and carrots, not very much variety...

Sometimes you go to a restaurant and the food is great but the atmosphere kills it, or awesome atmosphere but the food is lacking. Neither is the case here! Quality food with great atmosphere to complement it! Get the artichoke past Paulette, it's not on the menu but the chef will make it! Also best bread anywhere hands down!

The previous post had a bad experience, but that's not our experience. We've been there in the past month and were happy with the service and food. Still the great bread and the pieces of pizza while you wait. We won't hesitate to go back.

This, what I will call an advanced diner. Not fine dining, but a casual, jeans and sweatshirt place where you can still get an excellent meal and a bottle of wine. Kruse & Muer at Meadowbrook is still a 5-star diner experience for me for two reasons. 1) I can get my favorite soup in the world here, Chuck Muer's "Charley's Chowder", without busting the budget. 2) I love the Muer bread. I can make a meal out of both. Other dishes run from good to OK and I've never had a bad meal here. But what I want to tell you very about today came to me as a total surprise last weekend. I found thin crust pizza here that I really like... Not just thin crust pizza I'll tolerate... I'm talking about thin crust I'd come back for. To make this point clear, please read my review of Supino's in Eastern Market. yelp.com/biz/supino-pizz… What makes this thin crust pizza special to me is that the crust is based on the Muer bread. So a bowl of Charley's Chowder, Pizza and some to-go soup and bread and I'm in heaven. You thin crust pizza lovers should give this stealth pizzeria disguised as a seafood restaurant a try. But then again, a thin crust recommendation from a deep dish pizza lover may just be too sketchy for you...

When we use to live out in Rochester this was a staple. Pizza is very good but if you go to this place you need to get the chicken tortellini al crème... I still think this is my most favorite dish of any place I have ever gone. They switched pasta a number of years back but the replacement still keeps it number one in my book. Seating is tight but the bread makes up for it!!

Went out with the wife on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for a late lunch/early dinner. As always, the service was excellent. The wife ordered the Shrimp Scampi sautéed with garlic butter, tomatoes & roasted almonds with a side of pasta and I ordered the Louisiana Chicken sandwich. My blackened chicken with herb tomatoes & boursin cheese on focaccia bread was very tasty! We did have a slight miss-hap that was entirely our fault. We chose to eat outside and the wind picked up and blew the delightfully warm bread off the table. Our waiter promptly raced inside, picked up another loaf and sprinted back out to our table with a fresh piping hot loaf. Nothing can top delicious food on a delicious day with my delicious wife! What can I say...I have no complaints. You can't go wrong at Kruse & Muer!

It was a beautiful day when I went to Kruse & Muer in the Village, so I decided to sit outside. When I arrived, there were a lot of other people dining outside and I got the last table. I was barely seated when the server brought the very good bread and "buttery spread". I really would've preferred real butter, but not a big deal. I had to make a concerted effort not to eat the whole loaf! I ordered the house salad with chargrilled chicken. It took a while to come out, but it was soooo good. A nice mix of greens, cucumbers, onion, tomato and fruit, lightly tossed with honey mustard dressing. While I was eating, everyone else who was dining outside left. And that's where the service stopped. My server never came back. I waited for about 15 or 20 minutes and nothing. I finally went inside, told the person at the odd little reception table (which faces INTO the restaurant instead of facing the door) that I was ready to go & hadn't gotten my bill, so she rang it up for me. And there was no place to sign the receipt, so I had to sign it & leave it on the table. So, my experience was that the food itself is very good, but my service was lacking. (Oh, and the bees seem to like it, too; at one point, there were FOUR swarming around me!)

Wow, what a change from the Troy location! We went to that one last week, service was not great and food was the Sunday brunch which I'm not a huge fan of. This time we got bread (yum! So delicious) and I ordered a chicken dish with tomatoes and rice, in some sort of cream sauce, which was also delicious. I liked that this location was a little smaller than Troy too. The waitstaff was great and my water glass was always kept full. Guess I'm going to have to make the "trek" out here next time! Or maybe retry the Troy one for dinner.

Kruse & Muer In the Village is different than the other locations. It is a tiny restaurant that you best go to this location if you really like/comfortable with the person you are dining with. I say this because you get very close when dining based on the small tables and dining area. There is a nice eating area outside, granted you stare at the parking lot of the mall, so it isn't that nice of a view. When you walk in on the left is the dining room door and on the right is the delivery/cashier for pick-up. It is awkward because there is no waiting area for the dining room. You have to wait in the foyer area where other people are waiting for their pick-up. The plus is that they usually have complimentary pizza while you wait for your name to be called. The dining room like I said earlier is small...I guess you could say "quaint". The single stall bathrooms are tucked in the back and if it is winter time...forget about hanging your coat up by the bathrooms. Due to the booths being so small there is no room to put your big coat, so there are coat hooks by the bathrooms but it is impossible to find a free hook. The food is excellent. Let me say you pay for what you get. The bread is amazing and complimentary. The pasta is made fresh and every time I have gone I try something new and never have complained. I usually take it home because I loaded up on bread, which isn't a bad thing! Again the prices are high but the quality is high. The atmosphere is a nice home town feel, but very small. Probably my favorite place to eat at The Village.

Arrived about one for a quick lunch. Seated quickly at a nice window seat Server delivered their signature warm garlicky bread, took our order and delivered our beverages..Arnold Paulmers..my fav. We both got the chicken veggie wrap accompanied by a nice fresh fruit cup dressed in a great poppy seed dressing. Gave only 4 stars because I ask...begged " no sweet peppers on my wrap" Came with peppers anyway. But server gave me another meal without them the take home. The wrap was very generous, tasty with a yummy side of a spicy spread. Server was pleasantly attentive.

I've also been the Kruse & Muer on Main and Deer Lake Inn, and this by far was the worst experience. I thought it would be a comparable level of service, but I was wrong. We arrive for early dinner on a weekend and were greeted by a very friendly waitress. If only she had been OUR waitress, because the guy we got was rude. He was nice at first, but upon hearing we were only ordering pop, he quickly grew sour. I understand it's hard to earn a living as a waiter, and tips are important, but just because we aren't drinking doesn't mean we won't tip well. In fact, your condescending attitude about it is why we didn't tip you well. Everything else was pretty good. I got the seafood combo thing which was fairly priced for the taste. The manager came by and asked how we were and even took the check when the waiter disappeared. The waiter got my dish mixed up with another lady's that was very similar, but instead of swapping the different sides, he swapped the whole plate. I hope he didn't bring that straight to her, because I ate a bite of it first. He caught me with the fork in my mouth so I assumed he knew that. It would've been at least a 3 star experience but the distain rolling off the waiter vastly overshadowed everything else. Oh how I wish we had been served by the friendly girl who greeted us.

For my lovely lassy's mom's birthday, we went here. I thought we'd be going to K&M On the Main, but they're similarly rated and whatnot. Whatever. First impression was "Sweet mother of Jesus it's scalding in this B." because it seems the kitchen is right at the entrance. While that may feel good if you were strolling in in the dead of winter, it wasn't exactly pleasant on a ~70 degree day. Second impression was "Sweet mother of Jesus it's tight in this B." because while there's a lot of seating, it's pretty cramped together. Obese people take offense: it seems they don't want your business. As for the decor and all of that it seems sort of schizophrenic. It's like in the Village is supposed to be a fine dining sort of restaurant because of the sophisticated menu, but the look is relatively casual -- they give you paper napkins, and the tables are draped with cardboard paper. That can't be what it's called... whatever, look at the pictures. The bread served here is really good, but deathly hot. If you feel like having yourself some blistered fingers, feel free to tear the bread apart when it's put on the table! While the bread is super tasty, it's covered in poppy seeds that really do nothing for you but litter your table and your clothes As said, the menu's kind of fancy with a pretty long line of seafood options, but there's also pizza (that's supposedly tasty) and other non-seafood options. One of the specials for the day was Santa Fe Mahi Mahi with a shrimp and crab and lobster "crabcake" on top. I also got their house salad. For a total of about $26, I'd expect at least a little more food, but I can't complain about the quality. The house salad's dressing has a lot of ginger in it, and tastes decidedly... Asian, I guess you could say. There is also a decent amount of melon and pineapple in there as well. I enjoyed it. The Santa Fe Mahi Mahi entree, while borderline great (the 'cake on top was the best part, I think), I can't help but feel like there should have been more on the plate, considering the price. To summarize, in the Village is a confusingly themed restaurant with tables that don't exactly welcome heavyset folk (God forbid you're prone to claustrophobia), but dishes out some very palatable food, even if the prices are about a couple dollars higher than they ought to be.

Good place to go for a special meal. Food is excellent. The staff is friendly and makes you feel welcome. This is the best of the Krues and Muir Resturants. You can't go wrong with any of the fish or pasta selection on the menu.

Kelsey is the best. As you can see from the other reviews, this place is great. It's even better if you get Kelsey. She was fun and walked us through the whole menu in detail, because we were willing to listen. My only complaint is that the place is small but I don't know if I would change that.

So, my mom wanted to take me out to a nice dinner for my birthday, and we ended up here. We've never been to a Kruse and Muer, and decided to come here to mix it up. Granted, I'm not the biggest seafood eater, so I wasn't sure what to expect walking in. The menu here was decent, with a variety of options to choose from. After the server came to our table, he informed us that they were already out of one of the dishes my mom asked about! (I can't remember which one.) I ended up going with the broiled blackfish with rice pilaf and grilled vegetables. My mom went with the blackened whitefish, with the same side dishes as me. When the food came out, it was absolutely delicious! Oh were we impressed! The fish was done perfectly, and tasted amazing. The rice pilaf was okay, and the veggies were good since they were grilled. The fish was definitely the best part of the meal here. They also had amazing bread here as well. We liked it so much that we ate two loaves all by ourselves. We were both starving but couldn't seem to get enough of the bread. I will say, we were disappointed that they didn't provide much butter to go with it. They put those little packets out, and it barely got us through two pieces of bread each. I wish they would have provided a section of butter since we had to eat most of the bread dry. I deducted some for this because it is a nicer restaurant then most, and I have higher expectations for places like this versus a coney island or what not. Also, a major letdown was the bathroom. It was seriously trashed. The garbage can was overflowing with paper towels, and there were paper towels all over the bathroom floor along with toilet paper as well. I've seen cleaner bathrooms in Walmart! OMG it was atrocious! What a mess. Plus, its a one person at a time type bathroom, so if you have to go, you better be prepared to hold it! Also, there was a Listerine mouth wash pump in the bathroom with little cups next to it. Um, really? wtf is that all about? Weird. Anyways, overall a great experience, will be back in the future for the great fish.

I've been going here for years and always have a consistently good time, the serves are knowledgeable about the menu and the food is always delicious. The bread is amazing, I think that's a given, i like to order casino butter on the side, it's garlicy and delicious. I probably eat a whole loaf myself. Try the calamari, you can't go wrong, always fresh and tasty. I'm a fan of the Martha's vineyard salad to go with my entre. My top 2 favorite enteres: chicken tortellini and lobster fettuccine. Both have super flavorful sauces! Little known fact, you can but frozen pizza dough and make at home!!

I eat here regularly. Why? Consistency of food and service is some of the best in the Detroit area. I love their Gazpacho - made exactly how I like it. I enjoy the Tortellini and Grilled Chicken Ala Creme and Maryland Chicken. Most of the entrees are excellent. Love the Pizza for take home. And their bread is simply the best. I would rate this one of the best places to frequent in the Detroit area. Thanks to Bill Kruse - the owner - who shows impeccable details in the quality of the food and service. VERY WELL DONE.

The food (except for the bread and pizza, see below) isn't the greatest, but it's the atmosphere that always draws me here. I have absolutely no problem standing in the waiting area for my table. They offer FREE FOOD. They serve free, unlimited, hot, piping, melty, crispy deep dish pizza and their signature bread fresh out of the oven, with three delicious spreads for dipping. Actually I'm pretty sure it's not truly unlimited and just a taste sampler, but I like to treat it as so :). And I don't even like deep dish, but the pizza here is an exception. The bread, although laden with poppy seeds (the archenemy of my teeth), is strangely addictive. I don't even know what it's called. But Kruse and Muer bread man...

While this place is a lovely restaurant to dine-in, I love the convenience of their takeout. Brilliant to have it with its own entrance and check out! I've lived in Rochester for 20 years and Kruse & Muer is by far my most favorite restaurant in town! I've tried everything on their menu at least once, the service is always top notch - and the prices are reasonable. Trust me you won't be disappointed. There is always a wait, but I will happily wait patiently for delicious food every time. While you wait, they offer cheese pizza slice samples. This is one of 4 local locations, honestly my favorite place to eat on earth!

Been going here for years - love their seafood and pasta dishes. Their pizza is good too - but I can't get myself to order pizza with all the other good dishes there. Their bread is amazing!! -- stop by regularly just to buy an order of bread to take home. Place is quite small so if you hit the rush hour, it can be difficult to get seated. HIghly recommend going either early or later.

This was my very first time at Kruse & Muer & I was pleased. I had the crab & shrimp chowder which was amazing! I also had the raspberry chicken salad which was great too! The bread was probably 1000 calories, but worth every one! I called for reservations, so they gave us a nice table in the back. It was definitely crowded for lunch, so I would definitely recommend making the call first. The waiter was great too. I've heard it wasn't worth the price, but I would go back.

Favorite restaurant in Metro Detroit. Get a bag of bread and Gazpacho and you will be all set! Just to put it in perspective I remember when this first opened outside of the Meadowbrook Mall and have been eating their since it opened in the 90's. When I lived just a couple streets over I would come here everyday, NOT once did have a meal that I didn't enjoy ( it's been several hundred). Consistency and quality!

I have been here several times and I have always had good experiences. My most recent visit was exceptional! My boyfriend and I came during prime dinner time and we expected a wait. They have a small lobby to wait in and it was getting packed. They offered complimentary beers and freshly baked pizza for those waiting. I have never received this kind of service before! I had no complaints waiting with a free beer in hand and a slice of pizza. The wait wasn't very long either. Their bread is phenomenal and you don't have to ask for it. It is warm and waiting for you when you sit down. They always offer you another loaf. I have never had a meal that I did not like. They change their menu often and they always have the best selections. If you are deciding between Kruse and Muer and another place, choose Kruse and Muer. You can't go wrong.

We have been here a few times for dinner. The food is very good. The seating capacity is a little limited. I have had a salad one meal and a salmon sandwich another time. The kids have had the pizza and ask to return for more.

Thankfully we had a gift card to use because I would have been pretty disappointed had I actually spent money on this meal. We went on a Friday night, so there was a pretty long wait, which I expected, but we had driven 45 minutes to get there and really weren't in a rush, so we stuck it out. We got seated, the waiter was good, served us right away and brought us bread (which is delicious by the way!). I was kind of bummed that there was only two appetizer options and one of them wasn't even on the menu, we had to ask about it. Now, I'm not a picky eater but literally nothing on the menu sounded all that great. I was in the mood for pasta but either the combinations of everything sounded weird, or saffron was used, which is one thing I'm not a huge fan of. My husband and I decided on two different chicken dishes and neither of us were impressed at all. Like someone else mentioned, the menu leads one to think that the focus is fine dining, but the lighting and atmosphere almost feel like a diner or cafe. I did get the chocolate mousse for dessert which was good, but I'm pretty sure we won't be returning.

First of all, I do not want to stick to the doors when I'm walking in or out of a restaurant. Someone needs to seriously scrub this place. Secondly, I was there with some older relatives, so it was super early and there was no need to rush. So, why did the waiter bring me entree while I was still eating my (completely mediocre) house salad? The entree was good. The bread is excellent. The wine list is terrible. I will not return. Ever again. Blech.

I've been to a few of their locations, but not this one which is closest to our house. Seemed more laid back which I loved. It's pretty small with Take out on 1 side and eat in on the other. No problem for us as we usually eat dinner early. I had the House Special Pizza-Black Forest ham, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, green pepper & cheese. OMG...it was awesome! Light, airy crust and I think it was the Muenster cheese that made it so deliciously different. The small was 8 pieces, but 4 filled me up nicely. Asked for a box and they took it away and came back with it in an actual pizza box. Love that! It irks me when they just dump off a Styrofoam container at you table and walk away so this was a pleasant surprise. My wife had the Tortellini and Grilled Chicken a la Crème--Half moons of cheese-filled pasta with grilled chicken & tomato cream. She loved it! Nice and light and just the right amount of food. I have a feeling it'll be our new "Go to" spot!

My second visit to Kruse & Muer was much better than my first. A co-worker and I went this week to have lunch and discuss a big project at work. She had a wrap and salad combo and I ordered the Caesar Salad. The server greeted us promptly and took our drink orders. Drinks arrived quickly and she took our orders. My co-worker's lunch looked great. A very nice portion for a half-salad/half-sandwich combo. My salad was great. The chicken breast on top was freshly cooked and still warm when it arrived. At the table they ask you if you want Parmesan cheese and fresh ground pepper on your salad. The croutons they make out of their famous bread are excellent. I'm just not sold on the bread as they deliver to the table. The drink refills flowed freely and the service was excellent!

This is me and my boyfriend's absolute favorite restaurant. We have been here too many times to count and have never had a bad meal or bad service. Everyone is super-friendly when you walk in. They have a good wine selection and the bread is amazing. I have tried every seafood dish on the menu and they are all outstanding. Can't say enough about this restaurant!

Can't say I was all that impressed.... I did factor in the fact that it was Mother's Day, and it still didn't add up. Came here with some family (as I mentioned before) for Mother's Day. My aunt and uncle enjoy getting take out from their other location, so they figured they check this place out for brunch. AMBIANCE- place is located in a outdoor mall type area, this place has very limited seating, I'm talking 30 people max. We had a party of 7.5 (we brought our little one) and it was TIGHT. The place is bright, but not too discernible from a TGIFridays or a Ruby Tuesday. SERVICE- Yeah I know it's Mother's Day, and it was busy, but your game really should be at it's best on such a special day. Our server was hit and miss for the most part. He actually seemed more concerned with chatting up other customers he knew as opposed to helping our table out. I felt that asking him for things was (refills, bread, etc...) was somehow inconveniencing him. Manager went to every table but ours to ask how things were going. The Manager must have known. MENU- it was a set menu since it was Mother's day, so they didn't have any sandwiches, or other "brunch type" stuff that they may normally have. Pasta dishes, seafood, and a couple other entrees. It wasn't the biggest selection, but everyone in our party was able to find something. FOOD- Food was comparable to a Red Lobster (take that for what it's worth). My mom got some pasta that had all different types of seafood in it, but the seafood wasn't all that plentiful. I had shrimp stuffed scallops which were underwhelming. The rest of the family seemed to enjoy their food alright, though no one had glowing reviews of their food. Just "ok." OVERALL- if my family hadn't recommended the place, I probably would not have gone here. Having dined here, I have no intention of returning. If I want overpriced mediocre food, I'll go to someplace else. CELEBRITY RATING- anyone who has been on one of those "real housewives" type show

Ambiance is somewhat lacking, but food is delicious. I suggest management takes a quick review of the window seams because the cold draft through our booth was so strong I had to put my jacket on my lap just to make it through our meal. Wine selection is also a little disappointing, but prices were quite reasonable.

Some of my favorite food around metro Detroit. I crave it when I am away. They have Fantastic: 1. Salads 2. Anything with seafood 3. Pizza 4. Bread! (simply yumminess in a loaf) Make sure you check your teeth after eating the bread. :-) You must try this place!!!

I'd like to give this place like a 3.8. Last time I was there I got the grilled Salmon Sandwich with some type of cream cheese sauce. Now I thought the Salmon was prepared good not to dry but the cream cheese was a little to much and became very rich after a few bits and the bread was to big for the amount of fish. I also ordered the Gazpacho and that was the saving grace of the meal VERY tasty! The bread is always good at Kruse & Muer's , its highly addictive all you can eat and they let you bring a loaf home if you want! So every time I go there I am not amazed by any means but its always pretty good.

LOVE this place.....Really love this place for pizza. Really cramped sometimes? You bet. Service sometimes not 5 stars......it happens. No draft beer, no liquor, very limited apps compared to other K&M's....big deal. Sometimes you have to be near seriously snotty people with attitudes who think they are the shit......yep, lotta pretentious assholes in Rochester......whaddya gonna do? BUT.... They have their Martha's Vineyard salad, summertime gazpacho (seriously you cold soup haters....get over it and drink this stuff like lemonade), their absolutely STUPID bread (in a REALLY good way!), seasonal lobster bisque, and, of course, their wonderful pie. Someone once tried to tell me that this location actually outsells the busiest Sleazer's (Little Caesar's) in the state on weekends. Can't really doubt it. TINIEST kitchen in the K&M family, can't believe they get anything done back there. Carryout is always super. Been coming here since 1989 when they had the paper plates and plastic forks. Still have the K&M signature paper tablecloths and crayons. I don't know if they still sell picnic baskets for shows at Meadow brook, but back in the day when Meadow brook still booked half-way decent bands, this was the place to hook up some grub for the show. This is one of the very few reviews I can do that I actually have eaten almost all the menu. (Unlike most places where I JUST HAVE PIZZA). Siesta Key. Lobster & Shrimp fettuccine, maple-pecan whitefish, parm whitefish, parm shrimp, chicken sandwiches, (even the fries are kick butt).....all excellent. (Prolly should stay away from the "twin filet's" or other steaks....not really their forte.... If you want steak, go to Mario's downtown or up the street to Lelli's in Auburn Hills) The current Manager is one cool cat named, Carl. He is just unbelievably interested in making sure your dinner experience is better than great. Seriously, not a lot of managers out there like him.....lot's of personality and very generous! How on Earth could ANYONE give less than 4 stars when they give you FREE PIZZA and access to a tub of beer while you wait?

Recently went here for the first time. Overall very good experience. Food was great, we were even offered a free appetizer of our choice since it was our first time there. We did have quite a wait before we could be seated which is to be expected on a Thursday night, but what I didn't like was that they didn't have a decent area to wait in. They have a small bench right by the door, so every time someone came in or left we were greeted by a gust of cold wind. Very uncomfortable. Otherwise, really enjoyed my experience and would certainly go again.

I'm only a couple months late in writing this review. I had a wonderful meal around Christmas time with family at Kruse & Muer. The seafood was excellent and the service was better than OK. I used to eat at this Kruse and Muer and the one in Troy regularly. If you're going to be in this area this is some of the best food around for a group. Granted the place is not large, so I am not talking about a large group, but a nice medium size group is perfect at this place :o) Their bread is fabulous, I can never stop eating it when I should...their wines are fabulous as well ;o) I love their house salad, esp since it includes fruits - I highly recommend starting with this. Also DO NOT FILL UP ON THE BREAD - I've done this many times and had to quit my meal after my salad and wine. Not that it matters - no matter what you order you're going to love it and won't mind taking it home. Again I am a vegetarian SOOOOO I can't say this from personal experience but the consensus amongst all the people I've been here with has been that their Salmon is fabulous as well. If it's as awesome as they say - feel free to thank me for passing on the message. If not, don't shoot the messenger :o)

Went there again tonight, and it wasn't as busy as before. Rather nice. However, the seating was still rather cramped... seeing as how when my mom went to move her chair in to let someone through, she slammed her finger into the other chair... not a great start to the experience. Their 'base' menu doesn't have anything I really like (besides pizza... but I don't usually want to get a pizza when going out), and the special menu ... also didn't have anything I liked. I like salads. By salads, I mean like lettuce, cucumbers and tomato, maybe some cheese. That variety. I understand some people like to add nuts, cranberries, fruit, etc... This restaurant, however, is a huge fan of that. The house salad seemed different this time, and I confused a chunk of honeydew for cucumber. I was oddly disappointed. The bread was still delicious as ever. I forgot that it had POPPY SEEDS!!! on them. I'm not an opium addict or anything but I love love love poppy seeds. I'm pretty sure I embarrassed my parents by licking the poppy seeds off of my fingers. Mmmm. So, since I am a picky, fussy person with a "sensitive palette", I got a pizza. I ordered a small pizza.. and it seemed slightly smaller than what Little Caesars calls a Large. Apparently they use Mozzarella and Muenster cheeses, so that was interesting. The sauce is rather sweet, and the pizza was kinda greasy but still good. I was full after 2 slices (probably because I ate so much poppy bread); I could easily see 3 people eating a small pizza. After eating the pizza, I wouldn't mind coming here with a friend or two to share a pizza and poppy bread with. It has a nice atmosphere for that, and it is reasonably priced. If I want a filet however, I'm going to have to wait until my parents are footing the bill.

Kruse & Muer at Meadowbrook has quite possibly the best food in town. You really cant go wrong with anything on the menu. The bread alone is worth the drive. A bit pricey but worth every penny. The grilled chicken fettuccine pasta dish is my favorite on the menu. The ingredients they use are flavorful and you can taste the wine in the tomatoes in the dish. Absolutely delicious. Great for pasta, fish dinners and pizza and bread. Dressy casual atmosphere.

Mom and I were shopping in Rochester Hills so I thought it would be a good time to drive a few miles North of Main street so we could have a delicious pizza at Kruse and Muer. Because we live 35 min. away in Sterling Heights we are not able to eat at Kruse and Muer as often as I would like to. The atmosphere is scrunched to say the least but I have always found the service and food to be excellent. As fate would have it our waiter was in a word, 'Lousy'. How he made it through the interview process I will never know. All the other waiters were well groomed and energetic. Our waiter had his pants hanging low, shirt wrinkled and un-tucked and he shuffled to and fro like he much rather be home laying on the couch watching cartoons. We ordered a small pizza to be split between us. I had water and mom ordered a sangria drink. It took 10 full minutes for the waiter to take our order. Another couple was seated well after we were seated and he took their order first. After 35 minutes of waiting for a simple pizza the manager comes out and says they burned our pizza. We had been waiting so long I said that we would be happy to have the darkened pizza. The manager said they threw the pizza out and it would be another 15 minutes for the new pizza to come out. He did not offer to pay for the pizza, give us an appetizer, dessert...nothing; we were offered to wait... Alas our sleepy-eyed, disheveled 'waiter' shuffled the pizza to our table. It was hot, it was good. We were so relieved to finally be out of there 90 minutes later! I will definitely not be returning anytime soon to Kruse and Muer. Regarding our Pizza, the crust was crunchy on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside. The sauce was thick and plentiful. The pepperoni and cheese were very salty but overall this pizza was very tasty.

Went there 1/30/14 for dinner, food was nothing special for the price, service was great. The down side is the very poor ventilation system. We walked out stinking from food preparation. Had to hang our coats in the garage to get rid of the smell and wash all of our clothes. It will be a long time before we return.

Had great hopes for this place after all the good reviews. Maybe that's why i was disappointed. Those benches sure are uncomfortable. Made only for the extreme long of leg. Bread average, nothing special with little flavor, just a nice softness but not like wonder bread soft. did like the apple/parsnip cream soup. good thing i wasn't allergic to nuts, they were not mentioned at all. chicken wrap was average or somewhat below. chicken seemed precooked/bought at walmart type. didn't like getting onion skins in place of real crispy onion slices, actual tortilla used to wrap was somewhat dried out. mac and cheese had sauce that was hard to find. top portion was devoid of any moistening liquid. only sauce along the bottom of the dish. salad portions were quite small, as was everything for a large price. just not impressed. would not recommend nor return. did think the waiter was attentive, and attractive. Go alex.

This is hands down one of the best restaurants I've been in, in the Midwest, and by far the best in Rochester hills. Any and every item in the menu is perfect tasting. But the bread seals the deal. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing something serious.

They will get another chance to redeem themselves.

so um. didn't know that baja fresh was closed so my fam and i went next door to kruse and muer on a Friday night and managed to be seated in a reasonable time. while waiting there is a tub of bottled beers and I proceeded to peruse the variety.

Yet another place that breaks down my preconceived notions about Detroit and the metro area. Love it, love it, and the sort of establishment that makes you feel like you're right back at home...no matter where that home may be.

Random ambiance, but stealthily good food.

The previous post had a bad experience, but that's not our experience. We've been there in the past month and were happy with the service and food. Still the great bread and the pieces of pizza while you wait. We won't hesitate to go back.

Since I had to join Yelp for a class, I had to give a shout out to Kruse & Muer. This was my favorite restaurant when I lived in Rochester Hills and I miss it! Loved the bread (of course) and the chicken tortellini. Wish they would open one in DC!
